#1 Re: General matters » Getting CLVMKFS1 error Failed to clone disk only with cronjob (solved) » 2020-12-10 08:17:09

I can confirm, that reattaching the datastore as NFS 3 solved my problem.

#2 Re: General matters » Getting CLVMKFS1 error Failed to clone disk only with cronjob (solved) » 2020-12-09 14:29:26

Hi again,

I think I have found the culprit causing this issue. After rechecking the XSIBackup log, I noticed the following line and the mentioned filesystem:

2020-12-09T04:00:06| --backup-point found at /vmfs/volumes/Backup_NFS (filesystem: NFS41)

As your website ((c)XSIBackup most common issues) states, there are common issues with NFS 4.1, so this is probably the cause of my issue. I will now try to remove the attached data storage and reattach it with NFS3 and try the procedure again.

I will report back, once I have changed it and the backup ran in the morning via cronjob.

Hi guys,

I have setup the new Free version (11.2.9) to backup two VMs, after they upgraded their ESXi to 6.5 (build-17167537). I setup a job (001) and ran that job manually, to see whether it is working. The manual run, had no issues and backed up both VMs perfectly fine. I installed the cron ability of XSIBackup, so we can run the backup job automated at a specified time and waited for the next day, to look into the log.

In the log I noticed that the backup job finished but with an error for one of the VMs:

Destination disk format: VMFS thin-provisioned
Cloning disk '/vmfs/volumes/Datastore/o2e-staging/o2e-staging_2.vmdk'...
Clone: 10% done.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2020-12-09T04:08:14| [o2e-staging] CLVMKFS1 error: Failed to clone disk: The file specified is not a virtual disk (15).
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's totally weird to me, since the manual run is always working fine. Could this be an issue with the cronjob? Although I set that up as all our other XSIBackup instances, and they work as well.

I'm clueless what else it could be and would be grateful for any help I can get with this.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

You mean a filter rule at my local mail client? I could do that but it would be nice to have a feature in the software itself, for the user to choose what type of notification they want to receive.

Please could you consider this for one of the next releases?

Thanks in advance

Hi,

Is there update on this? Is the above feasible at all, or does it need adding to XSIBackup?

We are using the free version of XSIBackup, if that helps.

Hi,

We setup a few XSI instances, which are doing exactly what they are supposed to do. The only thing we noticed and would like to change, is the email notifications.

Currently the job is sending an email after each job completion. Would it be possible to change this, so XSI only sends and email notification if the job encountered an error?

Thank you in advance

Thank you for the clarification. Going to test it now smile

Just a quick question, I downloaded the new version of XSIBackup Free (11.2.5) and noticed that it contains a package called XSIBACKUP-PRO.zip (previous versions were called XSIBACKUP-FREE.zip), is this correct or may I encounter issues as a free user?

Rather asking in advance before encountering any issues smile

Thanks in advance

#10 Re: General matters » ESXi 6.7 U2 compatible version (free user) » 2019-06-25 11:26:28

I know what you mean but I have no choice, since our head of IT already put that on as well as installed a lot of VMs and does not want to downgrade anymore.

So we are not getting a new compatible version of XSIBackup (free) for the above ESXi version?

Hi,

I found a few threads on the forums about some issues with XSIBackup in combination with ESXi 6.7 U2 - I am having the same issue and cannot setup XSIBackup on that machine.

Judging by the other threads, it has been mentioned that you are working/testing a new version of XSIBackup which will be compatible with ESXi 6.7 U2. As far as I could however see, this was for the Pro version.

Are there any plans on releasing a compatible version for the free users?

Please don't get me wrong, I'd love to get the paid version to support the development of this tool, unfortunately this decision is not in my hands and so I have to stick with the free version.

This is so embarrassing sad I just checked the VMs on the ESXi and noticed that they weren't running. Just started them and tried the command again and it is working now. Just have to see, if the Cron is running this night.

I keep the "custom" backup-type in mind for testing purposes but wouldn't use it in production, since I really only want to backup the running ones, since the stopped once only need one backup.

Thanks a heap for your efforts in making this software and for your quick help!

Have a good weekend

Hi,

I setup the XSIBackup Free version yesterday and tried a dry run as well as the --run-backup=001 which worked perfectly fine. After that I setup the Cron, so that it does the backups every night at 5 o'clock.

This morning I noticed that I didn't get any mail from the backup, which I got yesterday and checked again. I found out, that when running the backup again via: /vmfs/volumes/datastore1/xsi-dir/jobs/001 or /vmfs/volumes/datastore1/xsi-dir/xsibackup --run-backup=001 it comes up with the following:

Error NOVM2BAK: no VMs to backup

I find it strange, that it is listing the VMs first and then comes back and says "Error NOVM2BAK: no VMs to backup"??

This is how my job file (001) looks like: (removed the email for security reasons)

# Office-LE ESXi Daily Backup Script

"/vmfs/volumes/datastore1/xsi-dir/xsibackup" \
--backup-prog=vmkfstools \
--backup-point=/vmfs/volumes/XSIBackup/VM-Backup/$( date +%Y%m'00000000' ) \
--backup-type=Running \
--backup-how=Hot \
--use-smtp=1 \
--mail-to=xxx@xxxxx.com \
--subject=[Office-LE]_VMware_Backup_-_vm-le1 \
--backup-id=001 \
--backup-room=600 \
--exec=yes >> "/vmfs/volumes/datastore1/xsi-dir/var/logs/xsibackup.log"

I even rebooted the machine just to make sure, everything is fresh and no jobs are overlaping (I know I could've check via ps -c but I wanted to make pretty sure).

What could the error be?
