#1 Re: General matters » Backup failed to restore, cannot find xsitools » 2020-06-15 17:14:26

Yes, of course, I do not know where I got that one.

Funny, I ctrl+fd the manual for --restore and firefox comes back with 0 results, yet on second glance I see it here under the Actions subheading.

I tested the restore process pretty thoroughly with PRO before moving over to DC and am relearning what I need to configure. Thanks yet again.

Hi again,

I must be doing something wrong.

fenQvzA.png

My license file is in the root installation directory at /scratch/XSI/XSIBackup-DC/ and if I run --check-license, it seems to validate the license but I noticed that it says unlicensed when trying to restore this VM.

Might that explain why ./xsitools cannot be found? To my knowledge, the installations went well and permissions should be configured correctly. is there an additional process required to enable restores?

Thank you for answering all of my questions.

Ah, I do remember reading about the lock files and rebuilding via the --repair argument now that you mention it! Cool, thank you for the fast information as always.

May be a silly question.

Is it safe to have two hosts running backups at the same time and point them to the same repository but different --subfolder?

It had just occurred to me that there could be some data conflicts if one XSI is not aware of the other, or am I wrong?

Thank you!

#5 Re: General matters » Where does --on-success go? » 2020-06-03 11:49:47

Be carefull if you edit the job files externally not to change line delimiters, i.e.: \n by \r\n, or spaces by some other Unicode character. This may happen without you noticing.

Everything else you said has checked out but this may be what was happening, I was editing the jobs in Notepad++ so maybe something there.

Now that last bit about just scripting the chained sequence manually is interesting and looking back very obvious. I will look into doing this. Thank you.

I must be doing this wrong. No matter where I place --on-success in a job file (/jobs/ directory), I am given a tip that I hadn't chained any jobs and basic instructions on how to do it.

Job File 1

"/scratch/XSI/XSIBackup-Pro/xsibackup" \
--backup-type="custom" \
--backup-vms="VM1" \
--backup-point="/vmfs/volumes/7bfca734-17d46d28/VM1diff" \
--backup-prog="xsitools:z" \
--backup-id=000 \
--on-success="backupId->001" \
--on-error="backupId->001" \
--exec=yes >> "/scratch/XSI/XSIBackup-Pro/var/logs/xsibackup.log" \

Job File 2

"/scratch/XSI/XSIBackup-Pro/xsibackup" \
--backup-type="custom" \
--backup-vms="VM2" \
--backup-point="/vmfs/volumes/7bfca734-17d46d28/VM2diff" \
--backup-prog="xsitools:z" \
--backup-id=001 \
--on-success="backupId->002" \
--on-error="backupId->002" \
--exec=yes >> "/scratch/XSI/XSIBackup-Pro/var/logs/xsibackup.log"

Of course I also ran the following.

./xsibackup --run-backup=000 --on-success="backupId->001"

yet I receive the same result, no chained backups selected and a tip about how to chain backups. I see other posts about --on-success and have tried to replicate other users' methods to no avail. What am I doing wrong? I am sure it is something very simple. Great software so far, very flexible.

#7 Re: © OneDiff » Try OneDiff before purchase? » 2020-05-18 17:34:06

Neat, I will read over the material again so that I can try to understand fully what files do what, go where, are what, etc, and play around with onediff during off hours. Still deciding on Pro versus DC, but that's another conversation. Thank you.

Hi,

Sorry if this is obvious or has been answered elsewhere. I am trialing XSIBackup-free for a small business vm implementation and I really like it so far. Is it possible to try OneDiff before buying or must one purchase a license for PRO to try it out?

Thank you.
