Can't install XSI free - need /scratch (solved)

Hello, need your help - trying to install XSI free to my old host (ESXi 5.5) but faced with trouble during install process:

         ->  XSIBackup Installation  <-
          ------------------------------

This will install XSIBackup to the desired directory
It is recommended that you use the root user for the
installation process, to avoid problems derived from
the lack of privileges.

Just provide the base path, the installation process
will create the XSIBackup-Pro root folder under it.

Where do you want to install XSIBackup to? (/scratch/XSI): /vmfs/volumes/datastore1/xsi-free
-----------------------------------------------------
Error: the provided path is not a directory
-----------------------------------------------------
Where do you want to install XSIBackup to? (/scratch/XSI): /vmfs/volumes/datastore1/
-----------------------------------------------------
Error: the provided path is not a directory
-----------------------------------------------------
Where do you want to install XSIBackup to? (/scratch/XSI):
-----------------------------------------------------
XSIBackup will be installed to the following directory:
-----------------------------------------------------
Install dir: /scratch/XSI/XSIBackup-Free
-----------------------------------------------------
Confirm that you want to install to the directory above (yes/no): no
-----------------------------------------------------
mkdir: can't create directory '/scratch/XSI': File exists

So I can't use my ordinary destination path to install XSI free. Why?

It looks like you already have some dir by that name at: /scratch/XSI
Delete it manually.

Thanks a lot - problem has been solved :-) Just one more question - should I delete backup files each time before a new job? For example, I have /vmfs/volumes/datastore1/vmbackup/dc folder and I run same job next week - will it rewrite existing files or not?

Hey!
It will delete if it's the same directory and names.
Should you delete, I'd say it depends on how much space do you have for your backups, how many backups you want to keep, or how long you want to keep them for.
In my backup job conf file (in the conf directory), I use the following argument:
--date-dir=yes \
Which means it create a new directory each time, named with the backup date
I also use this:
--backup-room=400 \
Which means it won't use more than 400GB of space.
That way, my backups run, and when the space taken by previous backups reaches 400GB, xsibackup delete older backups to make room. That allows me to keep a few backups, and not use too much space.
Maybe you can try using the same arguments, adjusting the backup-room value to your environment and see if that works for you?
Hope this makes sense, and helps!
