Re: Getting CLVMKFS1 error 39 during crontask

That error is simply telling you that there already exists a file by that name and that you can't overwrite it, due to the nature of how vmkfstools works.
(c)XSIBackup-Free deletes the remote content previous to perform a backup, so that you don't receive that message, but for some reason is failing in your case: permissions issue?

Nonetheless, that message is also telling you that you aren't doing things very well, as simply keeping a copy of some VM and overwritting it on every new backup cycle is by no means a backup. Should something go wrong in the original VM, e.g. some ransomware incident, your copy would soon be corrupted too.

If you use vmkfstools to perform backups, use some dynamic folder as the target of your backups, or use the --date-dir argument.

I just removed old backup manually and run again - it's OK now. Just one more question - can I use XSI-free with ESXi 7? See error "Only --backup-prog=Vmkfstools is supported in (c)VMWare (c)ESXI 7" while running job on my ESXi 7.

Yes, it may work, but you will be forced to use the --backup-how=cold option, namely: your VMs will be turned off during the backup processs.

Re: Getting CLVMKFS1 error 39 during crontask

So I should buy DC or Pro version to backup VM's in "hot" status?

Re: Getting CLVMKFS1 error 39 during crontask

DC is the only edition that can perform hot backups in an (c)ESXi 7 host.

VMWare is clearly turning indeed more propietary software. They have blocked read access to files on switched on VMs, thus, we had to redesign our backup product DC to read data from the iSCSI disk. That technical decission is a clear indication on its own of what is the path they are taking.

If you want to keep on using (c)ESXi and still be able to perform hot backups without having to buy an essentials & backup license, we suggest that you stick to older versions or that you buy some compatible software like (c)XSIBackup-DC

If we have more than one ESXi 7 host - should we need to buy DC edition for each server?

Re: Getting CLVMKFS1 error 39 during crontask

Each license comes with two keys and all server functionality is free to use, thus you can cover two hosts per license. Contact us with the exact number of hosts to get more options.
