Hi, i try to do a backup of my virtual machine in a host server test.
all backup failed with error:
Last error raised for the above VM:
ERROR CLXSITO1, details: [VirtualMachine name] error: backup error, details: ESXMapperGetPhysicalMapping: Failed to get physical mapping: 190004 Inappropriate ioctl for device Could not print entire mapping.
My virtual machine is store on a NAs with Nfs export, and i try to backup another nas whit nfs export.
where can be the problem??

oh, if i run a backup with vmkfstools mode, is's all ok, the backup finish without problem.

When XSIBackup finds a VM in a non VMFS volume it just warns, as it won't be able to jump over zeros and the throughput will be limited to nominal network link speed and thus the backup will usually take much longer.
If there aren't any further errors you can sefely ignore the error.

so , if i have a non VMFS storage, which is best backup solution?
vmkfstools is better???
i retry the job with xsidiff, the backup is good but email report many error and it's x3 time more slowly compare to the same vmkfstools job.
thanks

That's normal. XSIdiff can only jump over zero zones when the underlying FS is VMFS. In case of full local backups being performed on non VMFS volumes, use Vmkfstools or Onediff for differential backup, in case of the latter the Onediff routines will take care to choose the best binaries for the matter.
