rsync to Qnap NAS

I´m trying to backup to my NAS.
Everything seems to work till the point where I have to enter the password for the root user.
The problem is, my nas has no root user only the user admin. is there a way to change the user?
e.g.
--link-srv=admin@192.168.6.3 \

Re: rsync to Qnap NAS

Yes, in the conf/xsiopts file, nevertheless, we don't recommend that you do that, you will only make your problem bigger. Enable the root user on the NAS device: https://www.matthiaseinig.de/2009/12/06 … nt-on-nas/

Re: rsync to Qnap NAS

Thanks,
did change the user in xsiopt, but got stuck (as you predicted ;-)). Problem with  your provided link is that the Optware IPKG is no longer developed & supported by the newer Qnap NAS.
Found my solution by a NFS Mount in ESXI  - works great.
Thanks for you support.

Re: rsync to Qnap NAS

It's obviously far easier to attach the QNap as a datastore than to try to backup over IP to a locked down appliance.

For anybody of you willing to perform over IP backups:

If you can't control the device where you are suppoused to copy the data, you don't have much chances to get it rolling. Use regular OSs (CentOS, Ubuntu, Debian, etc...) as the target of backups over IP, otherwise, it's like trying to ride a horse in a cabin.
