SMTP definition in config/smtpsrvs not working

Transfering the email related stuff from command line into config/smtpsrvs file results in authentication errors.

Using plain text username and password as used in the command line causes '503 Bad sequence of commands' error. Changing user name and password into their Base64 equivalents gives a '535 Authentication credentials invalid' response.

Any help is appreciated.
