Cron failing to install even thought reports it installed successfully

Fresh install of XSIBackup 11.0.1 on a new host. Ran test backup job successfully, then tried to install cron and I get the following. It reports that it installed correctly, but there is no "xsibackup-cron" file created in the xsi-dir directory. ESXi version is 6.5.

Re: Cron failing to install even thought reports it installed successfully

I have the same experience.  I do see conf/root-crontab; those entries get copied to ESXi's crontab (/var/spool/cron/crontabs/root) but, I believe, only on boot and when updating cron jobs in the ncurses UI.

Have you tried creating jobs in the ncurses UI and seeing if they run?  Works for me.

I do appreciate the xsibackup documentation but sometimes I wonder if what I'm reading applies to the current version.  I'd encourage the author(s) to consider versioning the documentation.  I know a lot of projects use https://readthedocs.org/ but I know you guys are more than capable of doing/hosting it yourself.

Re: Cron failing to install even thought reports it installed successfully

Arindrew, there's no xsibackup-cron file any more. Please, read this post:

(c)XSIBackup Classic: changes in version 11.0.0

And always read the change log when updating to a new version.

https://33hops.com/xsibackup-change-log.html

XSIBackup project almost always keeps previous arguments and way of working, when some significant change is done, we publish especific posts.

backamunga, thank you for helping and also for your feedback. You are right, there's always a better way to do things, we'll study improvements as the project grows and we can dedicate more time to it.
