Scope of --check action

The scope of --check on a single backup or single VM in a backup is clear as all map files are displayed as they are checked.
However, it is unclear to me what is actually checked when a complete repositiory containing several backups is given as the argument.
There is only a global percentage displayed but not what is actually checked.
Each map file in all VMs of all backups?
Only the .blocklog?

Re: Scope of --check action

.map files are always checked, the default and fastest --check method (file) will just check their existence, whereas fast will check the size and full will recalculate the hash and compare it to the original one (the file name of the chunk).
